We are not looking for the fast roll over that HA (plus there are customer budget constraints).
Understood - live backups are a perfect fit for this situation then.
Are you suggesting using the task scheduler to start the dbbackup program?
Yes, that is what I'm suggesting if you're just running dbbackup on a client machine on Windows - it's probably the easiest mechanism to monitor, control, and to understand (something you very much want to have with backups).
Don't forget to test your recovery strategy!
