Windows Mobile Field Application

We are in process of evaluating the right method to integrate a field application (.NET CF) running on Windows Mobile 6.5 handheld device to our customer's SAP IM and WM. The application has to bring some data (such as serialized inventory) into device's cache, operate in disconnected environment, and send process data upstream when a particular operation is completed (such as cycle count or stock transfer)

Our current method of integrating anything and everything has been using REST based webservices. REST is part of the mobile application. However, our customer has ruled out web services based integration and want to use iDOC (reasons might be non-technical, I am not sure). I am not familiar with either iDOC or BAPI and if it's an option for Windows Mobile application.

My question is to someone familiar with this kind of applications and advise on the right practice. Is iDOC integration even feasible considering it is designed to be asynchronous?
